Q: Our firm is considering implementing a Service Award program for employees who have anniversaries at 5 years, 10 years, 15, 20, 25 and so on.  The program is one where the employee can choose a "gift" from a catalog, and the gifts are better quality as the years of service go up.  However, we have a lot of employees who have been with us for 10 years and up, and don't know whether or not to let these employees pick one gift for their current year of service or choose several gifts for each of their years, i.e. 3 "gifts" for 15 years of service.  Has anyone implemented one of these programs and if so, how have they handled this process so that those employees with longevity don't feel they are getting slighted? Our service recognition gifts are cash. It is the same amount for the 10th and 15th anniversary, and the same, but a higher amount, for the 20th, 25th, 30th, etc. anniversary. (20%)

We have a gift card program for years of service. Depending on length of service, you get a certain amount to spend on gift cards from various retailers. For example, if you have 150.00 to spend you could use 50.00 at Target, 50 at Macy's and 50.00 on something else. It works out much better than a gift catalog. (20%)
